Professional Background

Janet Ott riding in STPJanet Ott began her professional career as a registered nurse and nurse practitioner which included working in a field hospital in Viet Nam.  She served 17 years in the Active Reserve, retiring as a Lieutenant colonel in 1993. After returning from Viet Nam, Janet held a full-time faculty nursing position at both the University of Washington and Bellevue Community College.

In 1982 Janet switched her focus to psychotherapy and operated a private practice for 15 years, specializing in work stress. During this same period, she facilitated two five-day workshops, “The Pursuit of Excellence” and “The Wall” for a major life, business and executive coaching firm, throughout North America and Hong Kong.  “It was a privilege to help thousands of people clarify and reach their personal and professional goals.”

Today, Janet has a successful and rewarding facilitation, coaching and education business.  In addition, she holds the position of main facilitator/trainer for Excellence Northwest, a non-profit professional and personal effectiveness organization in Whatcom County where she leads two, four-day programs, “Reset for Excellence: Core Strategies for a Great Life” and “Break Thru to Excellence.”

Other Passions

Janet Ott riding in STPJanet enjoys the northwest with her life partner and numerous felines and is actively involved in animal welfare, gardening, any outside aerobic activity (hiking, backpacking, kayaking, Nordic skiing, biking, river running, mountaineering), peace and justice issues, buying and reading books, gazing at Mt. Baker and the ocean from her front yard, and the pursuit of lifelong learning.  She also enjoys being a wedding officiant and considers it a privilege to facilitate that sacred rite.

Janet is a member and former board member of Sustainable Connections and is an active member of First Congregational Church of Bellingham.
